Mount Abram came into its Jan. 31 Mountain Valley Conference basketball game against Boothbay playing like their playoff life depended on it. The Roadrunners entered Porter Memorial Gymnasium in 11th place and locked in a battle with No.12 Buckfield and No. 13 Richmond for the 12th and final Class C South playoff spot.

Early on, the game was close as the Roadrunners and Seahawks battled to a 10-10 tie midway through the first quarter. But as the game progressed, the host Seahawks showed why they are a lock for a tournament bid and why the Roadrunners are still scrambling for a playoff spot.  Boothbay outscored Mount Abram 26-16, and led by 20 at halftime. Boothbay went on to an 81-55 victory.

Boothbay is now 13-4 and sits in fourth place in the standings. Mount Abram drops to 5-11 and is in 11th place.

Three Seahawks scored in double figures. Steve Reny led all scorers with 25. Hunter Crocker had 18 and Ben Pearce scored 16. Other Seahawk scorers were Kaleb Ames with eight, Sulivan Rice with five, Nick Morley with four, Mike Hollowell with three, and Owen Barter with two.

Boothbay finishes the regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 6 with a home contest versus Telstar of Bethel. The Rebels are 2-14 and in 15th place in the Class C South standings.
