Boothbay planning board holds combination public/virtual meeting

Mon, 06/22/2020 - 11:00am

Three Boothbay Planning Board members conducted their June 17 meeting online while two others ventured into the municipal building’s conference room to decide two applications. Board members Dimzie McBride, Peggy Kotin and William Wright attended by Webex conference. Rob Ham and Bruce Bowler participated at the town office. The board approved both applications unanimously.

East Boothbay residents Deryl and Betsey Kipp requested approval for a one-story, 400 square foot addition on a pier foundation for an existing single family home. The couple also requested a 400 square foot deck expansion and a new dining area and entrance. The property is at 637 Ocean Point Road which is in the Special Maritime Residential and Shoreland Overlay zones. Vallery Tessier of Knickerbocker Group represented the couple. She described the plot as “non-conforming” and said the project would make it a conforming lot by planting enough new vegetation in current gravel and crushed stone areas. The board approved the proposal conditionally by requiring an as-built survey with plans including the buildings and revegetation plot points and a current site development plan be submitted to the code office.

In the second application, a Mount Pleasant, South Carolina couple received approval for constructing floats and piers at their seasonal home at 13 Luke Gulch. Lauren Stockwell of Stockwell Environmental Consulting represented Robert and Lucille Scribner. The property is in the General Residential and Shoreland Overlay zones. The Scribners sought approval for a 45 foot by 6 foot pier with a seasonal 54 foot by 3 foot runway connecting to two 30 foot by 10 foot floats located perpendicular to the shore. Stockwell indicated two dolphins would hold the structure in place. The application passed with no conditions.

The board meets next at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 15.
