Boothbay outlasts Lisbon 60-56

Senior co-captain Hunter Crocker made both ends of a 1-1 free throw situation with just over 16 seconds remaining to put the Seahawks up by four points and Boothbay Region held on for a 60-56 win at BRHS Thursday, Dec. 12.

Boothbay led 56-51with 2:50 remaining but Lisbon’s Owen Fish made two free throws to cut the Seahawks’ lead to three. Boothbay took only one shot in the next minute, holding the ball while the Greyhounds played tight defense and used six fouls to eventually put Boothbay and Crocker in a free-throw situation.

With 1:10 to play, Nicholas Morley scored on a layup on an inbounds play which gave Boothbay a 58-53 lead. Lisbon’s Ring Ring completed a conventional three-point play with a layup and free throw to make the score 58-56. Having no luck stealing the ball or forcing a turnover, Lisbon fouled Crocker, who tossed in the free throws. The Greyhounds missed their final shot with just over two seconds to play and lost the ball out of bounds.

Crocker led all scorers with 24 points. Sullivan Rice added 11 and Morley and Ben Pearce each had eight for Boothbay.

Lisbon was led by D.J. Douglas with 20, followed by Cam Gilman and Corey Weirs with nine each.

Boothbay improved to 3-0 on the season while Lisbon dropped to 1-1.
