A Boothbay man was hurt May 5 in a single-vehicle accident on Route 27. Larry Smith, 77, was traveling south in Boothbay around 3 p.m. when a medical event resulted in his 2019 white Nissan pickup truck drifting into the north side ditch, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department accident report.

Smith’s vehicle ended up just past Giles Road with extensive front end damage and tipped up into a tree. “He left the road and went through a ditch which acted like a ramp catapulting it into a tree,” Sheriff Todd Brackett said.

Boothbay Fire Department extricated Smith from the vehicle with help from Boothbay Harbor Fire Department. Boothbay Region Ambulance Service transported Smith to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta. He was later taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
