The Boothbay Region High School field hockey team battled two more top-tier teams this week but fell to Spruce Mountain and Oak Hill to drop to 5-8 on the season. Both games were on the road.

Spruce Mountain 7 Boothbay 3

The Seahawks didn’t give up, trailing 5-0 in the second half to the host Spruce Mountain Phoenix on Wednesday, Oct. 2. Behind senior Chloe Arsenault’s three second half goals, the Seahawks closed the gap to 5-3, but the Phoenix went on to win 7-3, and boost their record to 9-4. The Phoenix are ranked fifth in Class C North.

Spruce Mountain senior Emily Castonguay had four goals, while junior teammate Hanni Johnson scored two and senior Karissa Ritter scored one.

Oak Hill 3 Boothbay 1

Julie Mooney scored two goals to lead the Oak Hill Raiders past Boothbay 3-1 Monday, Oct. 14.

Desirae Dumais also scored for Oak Hill, which improved to 9-5. Oak Hill is ranked second in Class C South.

Arsenault scored Boothbay’s lone goal and Seahawk goalie Jaelyn Crocker had 24 saves.

Despite the two losses, the Seahawks remain in sixth place in Class C South. If the Heal point standings remain as they were at press time, Boothbay will play a quarterfinal tournament game at third-seeded St. Dominic Academy next week, date, time and location to be announced.
