Boothbay falls to Oak Hill

Sat, 10/03/2020 - 8:45am

Oak Hill’s senior captain Adelle Surette scored three second-half goals and the Raiders went on to defeat the Boothbay Region High School Seahawks, 5-1, Friday afternoon, Oct. 2 in field hockey at Perkins Field, BRHS.

The young Seahawks (0-2) played well against the veteran Raiders (2-0) in the first half, trailing only 2-1 at halftime. But Oak Hill’s experience showed in the final two periods as the Raiders got 12 shots on goal while Boothbay managed only one. Boothbay goalie, junior Jaelyn Crocker, made 17 saves in the game.

Scoring the Seahawks’ lone goal at 11:25 of the second period and tying the game at 1-1 was freshman Avery Barter, off an assist from freshman Kari Blake.

Due to the uncertainty of the season because of the pandemic, the team honored its two senior co-captains, Kylie Brown and Cortney Meader, during a brief pregame ceremony involving the coaches and the players’ parents. Usually the seniors are honored at the last home contest. No spectators were allowed at the game due to the pandemic, but Boothbay Region TV aired it live.

Boothbay will next host Hall-Dale on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. The Seahawks lost to the Bulldogs in Farmingdale, 2-0, to start the season.
