Wed, 01/08/2020 - 8:30pm

The Boothbay Region Seahawks knocked off top seed Winthrop 51-49, giving the Ramblers their first loss of the season, at Winthrop Wednesday, Jan. 8.

The seesaw battle saw Boothbay take a seven-point lead late in the fourth quarter but the Ramblers battled back to cut the score to two points, with a chance to tie the game with under two seconds left. However, Winthrop turned the ball over on a five-second call while trying to inbound the ball. Boothbay inbounded the ball on its possession and the time ran out.

Senior guard Chloe Arsenault had a big game for Boothbay, scoring 24 points. Fellow senior guard Madison Faulkingham hit three 3-pointers and scored 11 points. Junior forward Glory Blethen added 11 points.

Winthrop was led by Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone and Lena Souza with 12 points each. Sage Fortin added 10 points.

The Seahawks improved to 7-2 and the Ramblers are now 8-1.

Boothbay is next scheduled to host Wiscasset on Friday, Jan. 10.
