Blodgett receives 'County Commissioner of Month' honor
Last month, the Maine Spirit of America Foundation named William Blodgett of Waldoboro "Maine County Commissioner of the Month." At the Oct. 7 commissioners' meeting, Blodgett received a congratulatory card from U.S. Sen. Susan Collins in recognition of his public service. "To the Honorable William Blodgett: Congratulations on being selected Maine County Commissioner of the Month. Public service is one of the best means a citizen can demonstrate commitment to the public good. Thank you for your dedication to the people of Maine. And congratulations, again, and best wishes for your continued success. Sincerely, Susan Collins."
In other action, commissioners unanimously approved an increased hourly pay for sheriff's deputy special detail work. Previously, the department charged $83 per hour for private events coverage. Chief Deputy Rand Maker told commissioners an increase was necessary to cover overtime costs for six to eight employees.
The new rate is $110 per hour with a split of $85 per hour for overtime wages and $25 per hour for fringe benefits. Commissioners also approved $9,644.60 for equipping and installation for a new police vehicle. Rand told commissioners this was the second of four new vehicles being equipped by Coastal Electronics in Wiscasset.
Commissioners meet next at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 in the courthouse.
