After four years, two 1,000 point scorers, one state championship and three losses to the eventual state champion, Boothbay girls basketball coach Brian Blethen is leaving.

Athletic Director Allan Crocker announced Blethen’s resignation during the May 12 Community School District Board meeting. On March 2, 2019, Blethen guided the Lady Seahawks to their first state Class C title in 35 years, defeating Penobscot Valley, 33-25. During his tenure, Blethen’s daughters, Faith (2019) and Glory (2021) became thousand-point scorers. Faith Blethen plays college basketball for George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and Glory Blethen will play for the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut next season. Earlier this month, Coach Blethen said he wanted to continue coaching, but he also wanted to watch his daughters play basketball next season.

Crocker reported the new coach search begins this month in hopes of finding a successor in time for summer basketball.
