Beekeepers presentation Aug. 3
The Knox Lincoln County Beekeepers (KLCB) is pleased to announce a honey bee in-person presentation taking place at Lincoln Academy in the ATEC building on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. Chris Rogers, a Maine Master Beekeeper, will be presenting a talk on how backyard hobby beekeepers can test and effectively treat to control the Varroa Destructor mite. If you have honey bees you have mites and if not properly and timely controlled your colonies will die; 95% of honey colony loses are due to Varroa per a state survey conducted by Jennifer Lund our state apiarist.
This a great opportunity to meet local beekeepers and learn more about the art and science of keeping bees healthy and productive. It is important that all beekeepers keep their mite population under control to avoid spreading this parasite to other honey bee colonies within foraging range. There are two new mite treatments now on the market and allowed in Maine, VarroxSan and Ez-Ox tablets. Learn more about how to use these new products can keep your Varroa mite population under control.
Please visit the KLCB website, https://www.klcbee.com/, to register for this event and look over some of our other events taking place this summer and fall. We are all part of nature and we should be taking care of it. We look forward to seeing you on Aug. 3 at Lincoln Academy ATEC building, 81 Academy Hill Rd, Newcastle.
