Mr. and Mrs. Howard B. Barter of Boothbay announce the engagement of their daughter, Brooke Slocum Barter, to Jeffrey Michael Stearns, son of Mary Stearns of Tewksbury, Mass., and Jack and Julie Stearns of Palm Coast, Fla.

The future bride graduated from New England College and Spa Tech. She is currently employed as a massage therapist.

The future groom received a degree in culinary arts from Southern Maine Community College and is employed by Scholtterbeck and Foss of Portland.

An August wedding is planned.
