Harbor Theater is proud to present Exhibition On Screen, a series of six films on current and recent art exhibits in major museums around the world. All shows are on Fridays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for members.

Working with the world’s leading international museums and galleries, EOS films offer a cinematic immersion into the world’s best loved art and artists, accompanied by insights from the world’s leading historians and arts critics.Intertwined with artist biographies and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the galleries, the films are informative, accessible and entertaining. These films are being shown in more than 60 countries, and, as the UK’s Guardian says, “have become a global phenomenon.”

The season starts with the film: “Degas, Passion for Perfection” on Friday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m.

This film journeys from the streets of Paris to the heart of a superb exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, whose extensive collection of Degas’ works is the most representative in Britain. With exclusive access to view rare and diverse works, this film tells a fascinating story of Degas’ pursuit for perfection through both experimentation with new techniques and lessons learnt from studying the past masters.

Using written accounts by friends and commentators, and the narration of letters written by Degas himself, this film reveals a more complex truth behind one of the most influential French artists of the late 19th-century and serves as an exploration of the complex workings of Degas’ artistic mind.

Other 2019 shows in the EOS series include: “I Claude Monet” on Jan. 11; “Young Picasso,”  Feb. 8; “Cezanne,” March 8; “Rembrandt,” April 12; “Van Gogh and Japan,”  June 7.

Mark your calendars and plan to enjoy a rich exploration of art at Harbor Theater, 185 Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor. For more information, visit www.boothbaycinema.org.
