All Saints by-the-Sea to begin in-person worship June 20
It is with joyful anticipation that the Church of All Saints by-the-Sea announces the return of in-person worship for the coming season. We look forward to regathering as worshipers have done since the 19th century on this sacred space on Southport Island. So that we may be welcoming to all worshipers, we will be observing special protocols regarding limited attendance, mask wearing, extra sanitation and shortened service hours. Please note a change in service times for this summer. Services will begin on June 20 with Holy Communion celebrated at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. People of all faiths are welcome to attend. Pre-registration will be required due to space limitations and can be found on our website www.allsaintssouthport.org; There will be a limited number of spaces available for non-registered visitors as well.
All Saints continues its tradition of welcoming visiting clergy from across the country to preside each week sharing a wealth of wisdom and diversity. The season begins with Southport’s own Rev. Dr. Virginia Sheay, one of the first women ordained in the Diocese of New Jersey. Dr. Sheay has provided special events and retreats in the past as well as being the music coordinator for the Chapel. The season will also feature returning favorites including the Rev. Canon George Maxwell of Atlanta, the Rev. Martin Smith of Washington, D.C., the Rev. Cristina Paglinauan of Baltimore, the Rt. Rev. Mark Beckwith of Massachusetts and the Rev. Paul Tunkle of Dresden.
The music program at All Saints will continue its excellence with Mr. Henry Lowe as the Resident Organist for the summer. Mr. Lowe has performed worldwide as a recitalist and accompanist and is retired from Church of the Redeemer in Baltimore. He and his wife are summer residents of Walpole. Mr. Timothy Harrell, from Trinity Episcopal Church in Solebury, Pennsylvania will join us for two weeks in August. Our final Sunday, Sept. 12, will feature Mr. Timothy Wissler, retired organist from the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta, Georgia. and a summer resident of Linekin Bay.
For those worshipers who do not wish to engage in in-person worship, recordings of the services will be available online the week after the service. We invite people of all faiths to join us, either in-person or virtually, as we grow in worship and prayer together. Readers can find out more about the clergy and organists, directions to the church, and other information on the church’s website. All Saints has a dock and is accessible by private boat.
