Accident victim on the mend
Two weeks after an ATV accident sent him to the hospital, Chris Dighton is making progress every day.
After a stint in the intensive care unit, Dighton, of Edgecomb, has been communicating and walking.
Dighton, 23, was injured July 17 when an all-terrain vehicle he was on tipped over on Old County Road in Edgecomb, sending Dighton and Drew Wallace to the hospital.
Dighton was sent to Miles Memorial Hospital before given a Life Flight to Maine Medical Center in Portland in the span of a few hours, and has been there recovering from various internal and external injuries.
Wallace was sent to the hospital via ambulance and has since been released.
Since the accident, Bill Dighton, Chris' father, has been posting updates at www.caringbridge.org/visit/chrisdighton, detailing the progress Chris has made.
On July 23, Chris Dighton awoke on his own and began communicating again.
“Unbelievable progress,” Bill wrote. “Chris's nurse Linda was crying with the rest of us.”
Two days later, Chris began walking with the aide of a walker.
“Chris has taken many steps in the last few days but has a lot in front of him,” Bill wrote. “I know he's good for it.”
The Caring Bridge site also features photos from Chris' road to recovery and places where people can share their thoughts and prayers.
The posts include updates as Chris continues to make progress, and are often punctuated with Bill Dighton's sense of humor.
“Oh ya, Chris was fitted today for a helmet for when the time comes,” Bill wrote on July 24. “I asked if they came in camo and they just looked at me funny.”
A fund has been set up for Dighton at The First bank in Wiscasset. Any donors can drop off a check at The First or send a check to The Christopher Dighton Fund, P.O. Box 431, Wiscasset, ME 04578.
