Here's how the Boothbay region’s First Friday Art Tour began ...

In 2000, five to eight galleries hosted receptions for an event called "Art Along The Avenues." The dates were set up to coincide with the art receptions of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation's show calendar. This was followed by hosting art tours on the last Friday of each month, known as the “Last Friday Art Tour” but, it was not highly successful.

The following year, the decision was made to adapt to the nationwide “First Fridays."

Since then, The First Friday Art Tour often has 16 or more galleries participating in the afternoon to evening hour art crawl.

Studios and galleries offer new art exhibits, guest artists, demonstrations, art talks and refreshments.

The Boothbay Region Art Foundation serves as an umbrella for the art outreach, education, and opportunity to show artwork in a professional setting.
