Local boat captain Mark Stover says it’s gone.

 

While going through some of his old photos, he came across the accompanying photos.

 

“Took a trip out to White Island a couple of summers ago with Jim Fossett to do some photography. I had never been on the island before and I always wanted to see the old fireplace up close,” said Stover in an email to the newspaper March 14.

 

“I don't know if a lot of people realize that the fireplace got knocked down in the first of the big storms this winter. Pretty sad. It was beautiful.”
