Vote against withdrawing Woodend funds

Tue, 05/12/2015 - 8:30am

    Dear Editor:

On May 16, Edgecomb voters are asked what amount if any they want to transfer from the Woodend Boat Fund at town meeting.

This fund was established more than 50 years ago by our forward thinking selectmen. The purpose of this fund is to provide public access to the shores located in Edgecomb. They realized without public access, a large portion of Edgecomb residents would not have the enjoyment of views and recreation that the residents with private access have.

The rivers and pond is public but there is no public access to get on them. Over the years, residents have voted to add boat excise fund to this account and the account has been kept in an investment account and has grown to over $185,000.

I feel this account is an investment in the future and will be needed when a suitable public access parcel comes available.

Please make it a point to come to the Edgecomb town meeting at the town hall at 10 a.m. on May 16 and vote no-withdrawal on article 25, and yes on article 26 to add boat excise tax the the Woodend fund. Doing so should send the message that we do want public access.
