Turkey time for families at BRES

Parents and grandparents were invited to Boothbay Region Elementary School on Thursday, Nov. 20 to join their kids/grand kids in a hot turkey dinner lunch.

Eileen and Donald Higgins learned about the invite through a flyer brought home by their grandson, Jack Michael Uleau, who is in third grade.

“It was very nice to come join him, and the food was very good. Especially the squash,” Eileen Higgins said.

Michael enjoyed a peanut butter and jelly sandwich brought from home and very much enjoyed having his grandparents there.

Lynn Blake joined her fourth grade daughter, Sydney, and sat with a large group of her friends, and third grader Avery Barter ate lunch with her grandpa Stanley Barter Sr.

Many parents and grandparents also attended earlier lunches, as lunchtimes are staggered through the day, with the younger kids eating first.

The BRES cafeteria hosts a couple of these “bring your parents/grandparents” days every year. The next big cafeteria event is the Giving Tuesday Community Dinner, showcasing the healthy foods served in the school cafeterias. The dinner takes place on Dec. 2 at 5 p.m. in the BRES cafeteria and is free of charge.
