    Dear Editor:

My name is Michael Tomko and I’ll be appearing on the ballot next week for Boothbay Harbor Selectmen. Although I’m running unopposed, you should know a bit about my background and my strong desire to continue serving our community.

I’ve been a resident since 2007 and have volunteered in Boothbay Harbor since practically the first day I arrived. I’ve served on our planning board since 2008 and been its chair for the past six years, helping guide our neighbors through the application process, while working to keep our town viable and preserve its heritage. I’ve focused on economic and community development since 2010, serving on the Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission Executive Board, helping to promote sustainable land use, transportation, and housing development throughout our county. In 2014, I began work with members of our community to review and develop strategic goals in an update of the Boothbay Harbor Comprehensive Plan. This road map, along with the efforts of others, has helped to shape a Joint Economic Development Committee, where I and members from both Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor are working to promote economic growth in ways that preserve the quality of life for our residents.

I live and work on our peninsula as a general contractor and architectural designer, and am fortunate to cross paths with many aspects of our community. From the vibrant community center, our dedicated firemen and EMS workers, to our new and life-long residents and vacationers alike, I see the excitement and wonder of living in this beautiful region.

I'm enthusiastic about the many opportunities and challenges facing Boothbay Harbor, and I welcome the chance to further work collaboratively with our merchants, the fishing community, and neighboring towns. By engaging our citizens, from school children to seniors, for their ideas and critiques, I plan to help foster the passion I've seen in our town, and help energize the livability and value of this incredible region we call home.

My name is Michael Tomko and I'd like your vote in support of me for Boothbay Harbor Selectman. Regionally Passionate. Civically Dedicated. Actively Involved.

    Mike Tomko
