The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency has arrested three men in Waldoboro on crack cocaine, heroin and firearm charges.

Following leads provided by Rockland Police and Knox County Sheriff’s Office in early April, agents from the MDEA Mid-Coast District Task Force started an investigation into the distribution of crack cocaine and heroin in Lincoln and Knox counties.

Alphonso Belnavis, 45, of Waldoboro, Jeffrey Aviles, 26, of the Bronx, New York and Dean Feltis, 48, of Waldoboro were arrested after agents allegedly identified Aviles as traveling from the Bronx, New York, to Waldoboro with crack and heroin on a regular basis.

The drugs would then allegedly be repackaged and sold to local drug users.

Wednesday evening, police searched a Flanders Corner Road, Waldoboro home occupied by Feltis and Belnavis.

Allegedly seized inside were 28 grams of crack cocaine, 1 gram of heroin, an AR15 rifle, 200 rounds of ammunition and $2,500 in cash. The street value of the seized drugs is $3,000.

As police entered the house, the three men allegedly attempted to destroy the drugs and flee out the back door.

Feltis was tackled by officers on the back deck and the other two men were taken into custody inside the home.

Belnavis was arrested on a class A aggravated trafficking in crack cocaine charge. His bail was set at $100,000 cash. Belnavis is formerly from New York.

Aviles was arrested on class A aggravated trafficking in crack cocaine and class C possession of a firearm by a prohibited person charges. His bail was set at $50,000 cash.

Feltis was arrested on a class C unlawful possession of heroin charge. His bail was set at $5,000 cash.

The trio was transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset. Feltis was in-and-out of Two Bridges Regional Jail on March 20, 2008 for a receiving stolen goods charge. Neither Aviles nor Belnavis have been incarcerated at Wiscasset’s Two Bridges Regional Jail before.

Class A crimes are classified behind only murder in Maine’s felony charging classes. Class A crimes carry with them a penalty of up to 30 years in prison and up to a $50,000 fine. Class C crimes are also felonies and are punishable by up to five years in prison and up to $5,000 fine.

Assisting drug agents with the search and arrests were Waldoboro and Maine State police, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine Warden Service.

As of Friday, June 5, all three were still incarcerated at Two Bridges Regional Jail.
