Thanksgiving in May

On Saturday night, May 21, the Boothbay Region Lions Club sponsored a turkey dinner for the benefit of The Community Center. Duane Lewis, a frequent visitor at the Community Center, came up with the idea, offered to spearhead the event, and acted as our head chef. Many Lions Club members merged efforts with Community Center volunteers to make this “Thanksgiving In May” a very fun and successful dinner. Rumblings have been heard that perhaps this should become an annual event

There was a 50-50 raffle and then Tom Nickerson, in his usual rare form, challenged the people sitting at tables to vie for the order of being served dinner by the size of their contribution to the Community Center. Having had success with that fundraising idea, Tom proceeded to raffle off pies and cakes to the highest bidders. Karen Nickerson and her crew of Lions kept things running smoothly and always with a smile. Community Center Volunteers were happy to jump in to set up the hall, serve food and help with clean up.

This collaborative effort raised $850 and a good time was had by all.
