Terry O. Brewer, 88, passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a long courageous battle with dementia. He passed away the evening of Dec. 17, 2023 in his home in Boothbay Harbor that he purchased in 1958 and resided in until his passing.

He was born in Boothbay Harbor on Jan. 29, 1935, the son of Norman Brewer Sr. and Mary Doyle Brewer Pinkham.

Terry grew-up spending summers on Fisherman’s Island, where his mother and stepfather resided seasonally. He began his love for working on the water while being a stern man for his stepfather.

Terry attended Boothbay schools and graduated in 1954. Following graduation he enlisted in the Army, serving overseas in South Korea. After serving in the military, he returned to Boothbay Harbor where he began his career as a lobsterman. Later, he worked at Bath Iron Works as a pipe fitter for a decade, while continuing lobstering. He retired from lobstering at the age of 77.

Terry was a hardworking, witty, loving and very stubborn man. For those that knew him, knew his answer to fixing everything was with hog rings. In his later years, he enjoyed early mornings at the Sea Pier playing poker with the local lobsterman then going to watch his granddaughters get on the school bus. He later enjoyed his time playing cribbage at the Boothbay Community Center. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family and his dog, Lucky. He had an undeniable love for animals. Terry loved tending to his beautiful rose bushes and delivering flowers to family and friends. He was an avid sports and Johnny Cash fan.

He was survived by his two children, Julia Latter and husband Rob of Boothbay Harbor, Kirk Brewer and wife Melinda of Tarpon Springs, Florida, formerly of Boothbay; mother of his children, Sheila Sears, four grandchildren, Kirsten Latter of Bath, formerly of Boothbay Harbor, Kayla Latter of Boothbay Harbor, Annie Brewer of Old Orchard Beach, and Kevin Brewer of Scarborough; one great-grandchild, Kinsleigh Davis; several nieces and nephews, Karen Flaherty, Michael Brewer, Laurie Brewer, John Brewer, Robert Brewer, Ronald Brewer, Marsden Brewer, Verna Brewer, Mary Jo Bennett, Selena Brewer, MaryD Dodge, Tracey Hyson, Debra Andrews, Kevin Hodgdon and many great nieces and nephews, along with their children.

Terry was predeceased by his parents; his stepfather, Charles J. Pinkham; two brothers, Norman Brewer, and Robert (Flash) Brewer; two sisters, Florence Brewer Hodgdon and Cynthia Brewer Pyles; nephews, Norman Brewer, Wayne Brewer, David Brewer, and Charles Stephen (Beaver) Hodgdon Jr. He was also predeceased by his wife Ruth Brewer and life-partner Edythe (Edie) Wilkie.

Terry was able to remain in his home throughout his illness with special care from his daughter, mother of his children, Sheila, nephew Mike and Beacon Hospice.

A funeral service will be held at the American Legion Hall, 25 Industrial Park Drive, Boothbay at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5.

A private burial will be held at sea and at Oak Lawn Cemetery in the Spring.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Fishermen’s Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 304, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.
