Wed, 09/30/2015 - 11:15am

The Lincoln County Historical Association will host Jim Leamon at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, in the court room of the Pownalborough Court House, Dresden, as he delivers a free talk, "Charles E. Allen, Local Historian — And Much More."

Allen, author of the wonderful “History of Dresden, Maine,” was a complex man who led an interesting life. Leamon will speak on the formative influences of Allen's youth, his employment in the publishing field, his military service in the Civil War, his move from Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Dresden and the reasons for it, his role as local historian and politician, and his efforts as labor organizer.

Leamon currently lives in Casco. A history professor at Bates College from 1964-2000, he is the author of “Revolution Downeast: The War for American Independence in Maine,” “The Reverend Jacob Bailey, Maine Loyalist or God, King, Country, and for Self,” and “The Military Art of J. Thomas Leamon: Drawings, Paintings and More in the Wake of Two World Wars.”
