Sherrill Westfall

Sherrill Westfall, 80, of Wiscassset died peacefully in her sleep Oct. 18, 2015, at her residence from complications of two strokes which she suffered from three years ago.

She was born in Bath on Flag Day, June 14, 1935, the daughter of Stanley E. and Frances E. (Perkins) Somes. Her father died in 1937 and she was raised by her mother and grandmother, Kate Perkins. She attended Wiscasset schools and was one of 13 in the class of 1953. She looked forward to attending the annual alumni banquets at Wiscasset.

In May of 1977, she married Bill Westfall. They were the first couple married at the Bounty Tavern at the Sheraton Hotel in Bath. Bill was a career Navy man who died Oct. 19, 2003.

She was proud of the fact that her family on her maternal side have been in Wiscasset since 1735.

Sherrill was a former member of St. Phillip’s Episcopal Church in Wiscasset. She was a member of the Wiscasset Senior Center and looked forward to their suppers and playing cribbage.

She loved all animals, bird watching, cribbage, scrabble and coffee.

She was predeceased by her father in 1937, her mother in 1964 and grandmother in 1981.

She is survived by three sons, James Christiansen of Saco, Steve Christiansen of Wiscasset her caregiver who lovingly took care of her throughout her illness and Eric Christiansen of Dresden; and two granddaughters, Andrea Leighton of Nobleboro and Leah Altenburg of Lake Mills, Wisconsin. She also leaves behind her lifelong best friend, Carolyn Soule of Wiscasset.

Burial will be in the spring of 2016 at a date to be determined by the family at Old Greenlawn Cemetery, Wiscasset.
