Seahawks girls place second in Maranacook XC meet
The Boothbay Region High Schoolcross-country team pulled off a strong showing at their first regular meet this season Sept. 4 at Maranacook. The girls team placed second out of four, and AJ Crocker led the individuals with a fourth place finish out of 56.
“It was a hilly and challenging course, and I was really impressed with how well our teams performed,” said coach Nick Scott. Scott said three runners, Ross Gaffney, Jackson Zehm, and Nathan Percival, ran lifetime personal records.
Crocker led the boys in fourth place with an 18:17.60 finish. Other results were: Loui Caidoc, 15th, 20:27.00; Gaffney, 16th, 20:41.20; Zehm, 17th, 20:43.90; John Cooper, 24th, 22:36.90; Percival, 32nd, 23:25.40; Ben Gapski, 37th, 24.17.10; and Carson MacKusick, 52nd, 30:40.90.
Maddie Andreasen led the girls with a fifth-place finish in 26:16.60. Other results were: Audrey Robinson, sixth, 26:57.80; Rose Campbell, 11th, 28.53.30; Maggie McCarthy, 13th, 29:01.10; Abby Orchard, 14th, 29.12.70; and Lexi Hughes, 18th, 29:48.50.
The girls team finished second with 38 points and a 28:04 average. The boys team finished fourth with 63 points and a 20:33 average time. Maranacook won the boys event with 44 points and a 19:58 average and won the girls event with 21 points and a 25:59 average.
The next meet, the Southern Maine Classic, is scheduled for Sept. 13 in Gorham.
