The Boothbay Region High School swim team hosted its second meet on Friday, Jan. 5 against Gardiner/Hall-Dale at the Boothbay Region YMCA.

“While our numbers are small, we had some great swims,” co-coach Linda Strout said. Sophomore Rowan Kristan added another state cut time in the 100-meter freestyle, and he already has qualified in the 200 IM.

Freshman Graham Harris continues to be strong for the team, adding state cut times in the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke.  He qualified in the 200- and 100-free at his first high school meet.

The boys also swam two relays, the 200 medley and the 200 freestyle. They beat their old time by two seconds in the 200 freestyle relay.  Joining Harris and Kristan for relays are freshman Jameson LaBrecque and Fox Elder. LaBrecque competed individually in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, while Elder swam the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter breaststroke.

For the girls, seniors Evy Case and Emma Pearce continue to excel, with Case qualifying in the 200 freestyle on Friday night.  Both she and Pearce have a total of five state cut times early in the season.

“With seven more meets ahead of them, they are expected to add to those numbers,” Strout said.

Rounding out the team is junior Ashley Ames and freshman Maren Whitney.  The relay team bettered their time by a second in the 200 medley. They also took two seconds off their 200 freestyle.  Whitney competed in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke individually, while Ames swam the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

The team will travel to Bath on Tuesday, Jan. 9 for a meet vs. Morse. They follow that up with another away meet on Jan. 16 vs. Camden and then Jan. 19 at Lewiston.  The remaining meets of Jan. 23, 26, 30 and Feb. 2 are home.  All home meets start at 6 p.m.

It is hoped that no more meets will be cancelled due to weather.
