Poet Lee Sharkey to lead 2014 Poetry Workshop

Lee Sharkey, whose list of books, literary activities, awards, and more, cover several pages, will be the Poetry Leader for the Lincoln Arts Festival 2014 Workshop. The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Boothbay Region YMCA Camp Knickerbocker on Barters Island Road in Boothbay.

Sharkey has authored and edited close to 20 poetry books, including the forthcoming "Calendars of Fire," being published by the Tupelo Press. Most recently, she was nominated for the Pushcart Prize by Pushcart Contributing Editor and by "Crazyhorse." In past years, she edited such books as "Long Night Ahead," a collection of poetry by adults with mental illnesses, and was contributing editor on the book "In High School I Believed That Poetry Existed Only To Make Me Feel Stupid," published by the Maine Arts Commission and the Maine Department of Education.

In addition to poetry, Sharkey has published numerous essays, interviews, plays and reviews in a variety of journals and anthologies. She has also read her work at a number of colleges, universities and festivals, including the Maine Poets Festival, University of New England and Warren Wilson College, her alma mater in North Carolina.

The fee for the poetry workshop is $60, and does not include lunch, although dessert, coffee and tea will be provided.
