Oratorio Chorale and Maine Chamber Ensemble celebrate Bach

The Oratorio Chorale and the Maine Chamber Ensemble, under the direction of Emily Isaacson, will celebrate Johann Sebastian Bach’s 330th birthday with “The Best of Bach.”

Concert dates: Saturday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke in Portland and Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Brunswick.

“Magnificat: The Best of Bach” will feature some of Bach’s most beloved music, including choral works Magnificat, Lobet den Herrn and Komm, Jesu, Komm, and solo arias from three Bach cantatas.

Instrumental selections will include Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 featuring Dean Stein and John Corrie. Robert Lehman and Yasmin Vitalius will solo in Bach’s Double Violin Concerto.

Soloists for the “Best of Bach” include soprano Sonja DuToit Tengblad, alto Emily Marvosh, tenor Stefan Reed and bass Bradford Gleim.

Recently, DuToit Tengblad has performed with the Boston Baroque, the Blue Hill Bach Festival. She performs with the five-time Grammy-nominated ensemble Conspirare out of Austin, Texas, and with other prestigious groups.

Marvosh has been a frequent soloist with the Handel and Haydn Society. Her contributions to 21stcentury music include world premiere performances with Juventas New Music and Intermezzo Chamber Opera.

Reed has performed with the Handel and Haydn Society, Seraphic Fire and Firebird Chamber Orchestra, Bach Bay Chorale, Mount Vernon Symphony, The Marsh Chapel Choir and Collegium and the Tanglewood Chamber Music Ensemble.

Gleim performs opera, oratorio and chamber music to critical acclaim throughout the United States and Europe. Last season Gleim was featured with the Portsmouth Pro Musica, Boston Cecelia, and in Mozart’s Requiem with the Oratorio Chorale. He has recorded on the Coro, Harmonia Mundi and Musique en Walllonie and Linn Records labels.
