New Hope's Wish Tree

Fri, 01/09/2015 - 8:45am

    Dear Editor:

New Hope for Women’s appreciation for our community contributions and participation in our holiday Wish Tree remains undiminished. As many are aware, victims of domestic violence in our community go without proper food, shelter and essential needs every day due to a variety of factors including injuries, job loss and divorce.

With the generous support of community members, we were able to help all of our client families and individuals. Together we met goals of daily needs, and were able to shower these families with many surprise gifts.

A 2-year-old boy not only received his needed mattress cover, but was delighted to unwrap a box of brightly colored LEGO pieces. The warm hats, mittens, and clothing delivered to children ages 2-14 were accompanied by fun books, a Leap Pad, jewelry, puzzles, toy trucks, a skate board, and the list goes on and on!

Our mothers were all smiles as they opened their toiletry bags, taxi vouchers to enable errands, and gift cards for much-needed family supplies.

Many thanks to Bruce Mullins, Cheryl Greenleaf, Mechelle Nash, Linda LaJoie, Laura Scoble, Monique McRae, Ann Greenleaf, Diane Norton, Susanna Norwoood-Burns and Steve Burns, The First Bank, St. John Baptist Episcopal Church, Girl Scouts of Maine, Winterport Woman’s Club, the Martin, Caron, Applin, Worthley, and Van Buskirk families, and our anonymous donors for partnering with New Hope for Women this holiday season to deliver so much joy and hope.

For more information on how your donation can help to make a difference in the lives of domestic violence victims in Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox and Waldo counties, we invite you to visit our website at www.newhopeforwomen.org.
