Josephine Spring

Josephine (Field) Spring, 91, of Simmons Road, Boothbay Harbor, died Aug. 17, 2015, of an illness.

She was born on Oct. 22, 1923, to Mary Ellen (Tynan) Field and Joseph Fredrick Field in New York City.

She grew up in Manhattan, and also lived in San Francisco and Greenwich, Connecticut, before returning to New York.

She attended art school in Manhattan, and created art throughout her life, mostly in pastels. She also worked for Norcross Greeting Cards in their art department, and painted the faces on dolls at a toy company. She was also employed as an office worker in New York for many years before moving to Boothbay in 1977, with her husband and fellow artist, William Spring.

She specialized in pastels portraits of children and animals, and also ran their art gallery at different locations in Boothbay Harbor for many years.

She was an avid reader and loved discussing current events. She was a fan of old movies, and loved listening to jazz and blues music. She was a warm, loving person who was always thinking of others.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her nephew, Robert Tynan Field of California; her nieces, Sheila Kennedy of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Eileen Kennedy and her husband John A. Kennedy of Lunenburg, Massachusetts; her great-nephews, Tynan Robert Field of California and John A. Kennedy III and his wife Hannah of Holyoke, Massachusetts; her great-niece, Annabelle Kennedy of Fitchburg, Massachusetts; and her great-great-nephews, John A. Kennedy IV and Robert Gene Kennedy of Holyoke, Massachusetts.

She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Tynan Field, and her sister, Genevieve Kennedy.

There are no calling hours or funeral services.
