Johnson: A public servant’s heart

Sun, 09/25/2016 - 8:30am

    Dear Editor:

It is because my experience in non-emergency transportation and what I have personally seen from Senator Chris Johnson that I am writing to endorse Senator Johnson in his bid for reelection.

Just a little background on why to consider what I am writing here. I am a resident of Somerville. (Somerville is northwestern most in Lincoln County and small. We have just over 500 residents in the summer.) Like many Mainers, I drive quite a distance to work each weekday. I am blessed to do so. There are too many Mainers who cannot jump behind the wheel of their own vehicle and commute, like myself and most of you.

What I do for work, after my commute, is Transit and Non-Emergency Transportation operations, or “NET” for short. I have worked at different levels of NET in Maine for eight years. First, I served with the state, then as the regional manager for a NET Broker, and now with KVCAP Transportation. What is vividly clear to me is that Maine needs more transportation options for everyone.

Great Community Action programs like KVCAP, strive day in and day out, to the tune of thousands of trips per day, to remove transportation barriers for many Mainers. We all probably know someone who cannot get to places on their own, to services that they must have to live. The need for NET services continues to grow at an alarming rate as our population continues to age, with no end in sight.

It is because my NET experiences and how I have personally seen Senator Johnson respond to NET issues over the past two terms that I am writing to endorse Senator Johnson in his bid for reelection in Senate District 20. Senator Johnson’s willingness to assist all who have asked him for assistance to overcome particular challenges, is second to none. Senator Johnson has a public servant’s heart. He is approachable, responsive and thorough. When resources are limited, like with the NET, for a child, family or senior, the family’s challenge becomes Senator Johnson’s challenge to help, whether to NET and Senate District 20. Please join me and proudly cast your vote for Senator Chris Johnson on November 8. He is the best choice.
