Janice Newell Long, 81, died at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine, on June 5, 2016, after a severe stroke.

She was born in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, the daughter of Maurice and Lillian (Lewis) Newell on October 23, 1934.

Janice attended schools in North Newcastle and Boothbay Harbor. She was a graduate of Boothbay Harbor High School. Janice was also a member of the United Methodist Church.

Janice worked in the Boston area, Florida and California, eventually retiring back to Boothbay Harbor. She was very interested in the ecology of the planet. She loved the view of the harbor in her back yard.

Janice was predeceased by her parents and her son, Steven L. Long. Janice is survived by six cousins.

A memorial service for Janice was held at the First United Methodist Church, 81 Townsend Avenue, Boothbay Harbor, Maine, on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Ami Sawtelle officiating.
