Haddock chowder supper at St. Philip’s

Thu, 08/13/2015 - 1:30pm

Rounding out the summer season, St. Philip’s Church at 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, will host its second and final haddock chowder supper on Monday, Aug. 17, with seatings from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The family friendly charge is $10 for an adult and $5 for a child 12 and under. Reservations are suggested, though not necessary. Call 207-882-7184 to reserve your spot.

The menu includes a freshly made, steaming bowl of haddock chowder; tossed, pasta, and bean salads; corn and French breads; a dessert table replete with many mouth watering homemade cakes, shortcakes, pies, cookies, and such; rounded out with a choice of beverage, including iced tea, lemonade, and coffee. Hot dogs are also available for the non-chowder consuming family members.

The funds generated from the event are applied to the support of the church and its outreach missions. The Help Yourself Shelf Food Pantry has for many, many years, been a place where anyone suffering food insecurity can access needed supplies each Thursday afternoon. An arm of that program is the Feed Our Scholars Backpack Initiative that supplies weekend packs of food to students attending Wiscasset Elementary School during the school year, as well as supporting the School Pantry located at Wiscasset Middle High School and available to students and their families, also during the school year.

The Bargain Basement, housed in the cellar of the church complex, is a year round favorite of those seeking good deals on clothes and housewares. Importantly, it is also a place where people experiencing emergencies such as a house fire can fit themselves out for little or no money.

Come consume a scrumptious meal of “world famous” chowder and fixins while helping out St. Philip's and its missions.
