Fishin’ For Fashion returns to Boothbay Harbor Fest

Tue, 08/11/2015 - 4:15pm

The 2nd annual Harbor Fest Fishin’ For Fashion show takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 12 at the Rocktide Inn.

Guests will enjoy an unusual afternoon on the inn’s waterfront sea deck and tiki lounge, as models arrive by lobster boat and walk the gangway, adorned in original designs made only with materials from the fishing industry.

Local merchants will also debut their fall fashions and the audience will have the opportunity to meet the models after the show. The Rocktide Inn will offer music and happy hour specials on the deck immediately following the show, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Tickets are $25 per person and include hors d’oeuvres sponsored by Rocktide Inn, a wine tasting sponsored by Central Distributors and a beer tasting sponsored by Boothbay Craft Brewery. Event proceeds benefit the local student aid fund and the future growth of the Fishin’ For Fashion Show event, to support local merchants.

Participating local merchants include: A Silver Lining, Abacus Gallery, Boothbay Harbor Framers, Calypso Clothes, Casual Interiors, COCO VIVO Artful Living, Gold/Smith Gallery, House of Logan, Janson’s Clothing, Sadie Greens, Slick’s Boutique, Two Salty Dogs, Gimbel's, Gretchens Closet and Log Cabin Shoes. Fishin’ For Fashion designers include: Team Calypso, A Sliver Lining, Slicks Boutique, Angelrox, Sandy Barry, Paulette Carter, Lorna Andrews, Nicole Walker and Theressa Willett.

A limited edition Fishin’ For Fashion Collectors Tee, designed by local artist Morgan Mitchell and sponsored by Calypso Clothes, will make its debut this week at the Boothbay Farmers Market Harbor Fest booth. The tee is available (while supplies last) at Calypso Clothes, 50 Commercial Street. Proceeds support the Fishin’ For Fashion event, local merchant growth and student aid fund.

Event organizers are currently seeking designers, advertisers and sponsors. Those interested should contact Event Director Dana Paolillo at sherpa185@gmail.com or 207-844-0213. Parking for the event is very limited and trolley service will be provided between 1:15 and 1:45 p.m., so guests are encouraged to arrive early.

The fashion show will accompany several major events during the final weekend of Harbor Fest, to include: two major Stroke of Art events taking place at Harborfields Waterfront Cottages, catered by Watershed Tavern (Sept. 11) and Boothbay Harbor Restaurant Group (Sept. 13), as well as the Harbor Fest Awards Ceremony (Sept. 13), the Sultans of String performing at the Boothbay Harbor Opera House (Sept. 12) and the Underscore Orkestra performing at Mine Oyster (Sept. 11).

Many of the 17 Harbor Fest lodging partners will be offering exclusive packages throughout the festival with discounted rates beginning on Monday, Sept. 7. Fishin’ For Fashion is part of a ten-day community celebration of music, food, fashion, art and healthy living. The festival takes place in a variety of locations on the Boothbay peninsula, featuring more than 100 Maine businesses, organizations and individuals.
