Election-year politics on the menu at LC Democrats August 13 lobster bake

Sun, 08/07/2016 - 8:00am

Election years always make for more interesting and exciting gatherings of Lincoln County Democrats at their annual Lobster Bake, and how could this year’s bake be an exception? Headlining the program Aug. 13 will be Congresswoman Chellie Pingree and Maine Attorney General Janet Mills, both leading Democrats in the state and both delegates to the national Democratic Convention in Philadelphia last month. They’re expected to speak about their reactions to the convention’s choice of Hillary Clinton as the this year’s presidential candidate, and also about the challenges facing Democrats this year within Maine. Local candidates also will be present and will be commenting on their races for legislative seats in Augusta and for county-wide positions.

The event again will take place on the shores of the lower Damariscotta River in Walpole, on the property of Linda and Dirk Brunner. Attendees will have their choice of generous lobster or hot dog dinners, and can enjoy a raw oyster cash bar opening at noon, plus music by Old Grey Goose, back by popular demand. The food line opens at 1 p.m.

Caterer Jeff Hurd of The Narrows Tavern will be preparing the lobsters, mussels, and other traditional fare. The cost of the lobster dinner with mussels is $35, the hot dog dinner $10. All dinners include corn, potato salad or coleslaw, watermelon and drink.

The exact location of the event is 331 Clark's Cove Road, just down the road from the Darling Marine Center. Take Route 129 south from Damariscotta, and an immediate right turn after the Wawenock golf course.
