Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) Unified Basketball team fell to 1-2 after a 60-50 loss at home Tuesday, Feb. 27 to the Lincoln Academy Eagles and after winning on the road at Oak Hill High School the prior week. The Seahawks dressed out a full, healthy team for the first time this season.

Austin Orne took the tip off for the Seahawks and on a rebound scored the first basket of the game. The Eagles outscored the Seahawks, with players Harper Libby, Lucy Himes and Tally Bass playing strong offense in the paint, and Mitchel Dusoe and Emmett Anderson shooting efficiently from the perimeter, to give the Eagles a 24-15 lead at the half.

The Seahawks, once again, had a powerful rally in the second half with senior Matthias Fanslau draining three 3-point shots. Following suit, Orne, Eddie Carpenter and Brian Abbe, from his favorite corner position, each scored 3-point baskets. Orne took position in the low post, contributing greatly to the Seahawks’ points-off-rebounds numbers. Fanslau drove to the basket for several lay-ups and grabbed rebounds from the perimeter. Orne’s versatility opened up the passing game for the Seahawks, finding open players and earning him several assists. Anthony Angelico and Chloe Joneth each scored baskets, but ultimately, Seahawks were unable to close the points gap.

Team assistants Ariel Alamo, Kari Blake, Sarah Kreft and Spencer Pottle contributed to the team’s sportsmanship and enjoyment of the game.

“The Boothbay Seahawk Unified basketball team showed tremendous sportsmanship led by Matthias Fanslau, who set an example for the rest of the Seahawk team. All players put their all into the game. It was heartwarming to hear the cheers from the crowd when a basket was made,” wrote co-coach Tanya Thibault. The Seahawks are coached by Thibault and Dennis Dacus. The Eagles are coached by Morgan Brewer, Jillian Chadwick and Sean Cushing. The game was officiated by Clayton Pottle, and Suzie Edwards sang the national anthem.

The Seahawks are on the road Wednesday at Gardiner Area High School and will play their last home game of the season on March 8 at 1 p.m. against the Cony High School Rams.
