Letter to the Editor

Come play games for philanthropy

Thu, 06/09/2016 - 7:45am

    Dear Editor:

The public is cordially invited to attend the 5th annual Games Day on Friday, June 24, in Boothbay Harbor, sponsored by the local chapter of P.E.O. This stands for "Philanthropic Educational Organization," and our mission is to promote educational opportunities for women.

A local success story is that we were able to provide a grant for Irene Barber, to finish her horticultural therapist education. She works here in Boothbay at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.

Games Day is our chapter's only fundraiser, and all proceeds benefit our P.E.O. philanthropies, to provide higher educational assistance at all levels. There are two locations for the games: the Rotary Club Building for Sanctioned Duplicate Bridge, and St. Andrews Village for Mah Jongg, Party Bridge, and other table games.

We provide homemade desserts and coffee, beginning at noon. The games will begin at 1 p.m., lasting to 4 p.m. The cost of the tickets are $12.50 per person. For tickets and reservations for duplicate bridge, please call Sandy Terry at 633-6891. For tickets and reservations for the games at St. Andrews, please call Holly Smith at 633-4627. Please join us for this fun afternoon for a good cause.

You are welcome to visit our website, www.peointernational.org to learn more about our philanthropy.
