Planning board tables application Feb. 21

For the second time in as many months, the Boothbay Planning Board tabled Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens’ expansion application. The board voted 5-0 Feb. 21 after hearing Code Enforcement Officer Jason Lorrain report that a request was made to postpone the application indefinitely.

“This is an ongoing legal case and CMBG and the town are negotiating so I guess they think taking up the application at this time is pointless,” Lorrain said.

The board’s only other business was hearing a pre-application request from a Shore Road couple looking to replace two buildings with a garage. Local builder Peter Ripley represented Robert and Maureen Driscoll, who want to tear down a garage and shed and replace them with a 24-foot by 20-foot garage. “The new garage will still be attached to the house, but it will be pulled away from the property line.”

According to town officials, the garage currently sits on the property line. Ripley said he will submit an application at a future board meeting.

“The way it’s presented I really don’t see any issues with it,” said Chairman Alan Bellows.

The board will meet next at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 21 in the municipal building’s conference room.
