Civility has fallen out of favor

Tue, 08/29/2017 - 12:30pm

    Dear Editor:

From the late ’60s into the ’70s, the chains of accepted moral conduct were broken, thereby liberating behavior previously not condoned.

    The chant became:

“If you can’t be the one you love, then love the one you’re with,” “It is the dawn of the Age of Aquarius where sympathy and understanding will pervade,” “Be happy, no worries,” and “Make love, not war.”

You were free to explore life as you wished without restrictions. It was the age of sex, drugs and rock ’n roll. The seed of political correctness was planted then and, over time, has grown into a monster that has nearly destroyed common sense. The “liberated” utopian world, so hoped for by many, never happened. Common sense will tell you it never will. That failure has left frustration in its place. We now stand before the altar of rude, crude and ugly. Civility has fallen out of favor. We now condone bullying and violence to silence anyone who disagrees with our views or hurts our feelings.

What happened? Where are we to go from here and what will become of us?

    Does anyone know?
