The Lincoln County Committee of the Maine Community Foundation has awarded nearly $25,000 in grants to seven nonprofits, including Boothbay Sea and Science Center, to fund a 10-month program for fourth- through sixth-graders to explore the science of seaweed farming in school and at the shore.

Other grant recipients include:

• Lincoln Academy, Newcastle, for a garden and greenhouse program that will provide hands-on learning about sustainable agriculture

• Lincoln County Dental, Damariscotta, to treat infections and provide replacement dentures for people in recovery from opiate addiction.

The Lincoln County Fund is a permanent endowment that supports projects and nonprofits that strengthen communities in the county. Applications go through the foundation’s Community Building Grant Program and are reviewed by a committee of local leaders. The next proposal deadline is February 15, 2018.
