Boothbay and Twin Villages enjoy new trolley connection

Mon, 09/22/2014 - 7:30pm

The change in the weather hasn’t changed the busy calendar of fun events taking place the next few weeks in Damariscotta, Newcastle and on the Boothbay peninsula. It’s also a great time of the year for area residents and visitors to take it easy and leave the driving to the free trolley, which will be running Friday, Saturday and Sunday until Oct. 5.

Here’s some of the many attractions that Twin Village residents can enjoy in Boothbay: top notch art galleries featuring local artists, unique restaurants and local brews, Boothbay Region Crafters on the Library lawn this Saturday, Sept. 20; Boothbay Railway Village’s popular narrow gauge steam train and vintage automobiles; and also this Saturday and Sunday, the annual Fall Craft Show on the Boothbay Common.

In the Twin Villages, Boothbay residents can visit one of the oldest houses in Maine — the 1754 Chapman Hall House (open Saturdays and Sundays, 12 to 4 p.m.), enjoy aquaculture cruises, shop at distinctive stores and enjoy excellent dining. The Pemaquid Oyster Festival takes place all day, Sunday, Sept. 28.

There’s lots more going on this fall, so please contact the Damariscotta Region Chamber of Commerce, www.damariscottaregion.com, 207-563-8340, and the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber www.boothbayharbor.com, 207-633-2353 for more events and details.

The Trolley runs in Newcastle and Damariscotta for free from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with many stops on the route. The Trolley heads to Boothbay Harbor at 10 a.m. (returning to the Twin Villages by 10:40 a.m.), and in the afternoon, heads to Boothbay Harbor at 2 p.m., and returning by 2:40 p.m.). Tickets on the Boothbay Harbor-Newcastle trip are $5 roundtrip. Questions, please call 207-370-6041.

The Trolley is supported by many area businesses including McSeagull’s, Mine Oyster and Boat House Bistro, Newcastle Publick House, Gifts at 136, Yellowfront, Rising Tide, Round Top Ice Cream, Boothbay Railway Village, Boothbay Craft Brewery, Flagship Inn, Oak Street Provisions, Damariscotta Hannaford, Colby and Gale, T & D Variety, Lincoln Health at St. Andrews and the First. The towns of Newcastle, Damariscotta, Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor, Lincoln County, Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission, Twin Villages Alliance, and the two regional chambers have also provided much needed support and funding.
