In a statement to the newspaper on Wednesday morning, the Boothbay Civic Association has announced that its Fourth of July Celebration on the Boothbay Common has been canceled.

“At our May meeting we were informed that there would be no arts & craft vendors on the Common on the 4th of July (a Wednesday). A decision was made to offer space to local nonprofit organizations. Of those contacted, only the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library committed to join the BCA on the Common,” read the statement.

The BCA event was held for the past 31 years and included a chicken barbecue, children’s activities, a dunk tank, performing musicians, arts and crafts and more.

“The Boothbay Civic Association needs more energetic volunteers. If interested in joining the Boothbay Civic Association, monthly meetings are held at the Boothbay Town Office the first Tuesday of each month, March through December,” the statement concluded.
