Another successful Fishermen's Festival

Fri, 05/15/2015 - 12:15pm

Starting with the Miss Shrimp Pageant, the 2015 Fishermen's Festival was a great success. Without the support of the contestants, parents, community and the volunteerism this would not of been accomplished. Thank you to all of the participants; you all did a great job, you all wear a crown each and every day and we’re all very proud of you.

We would like to take this time to thank the following people for volunteering their time and hard work that goes into making the pageant and festival a success.

Special thanks to pageant co-chairs Heather Casey and April Pinkham, our emcee Mark Guerin, volunteers Sarah Barter, Amy Grant and Brenda Blackman, Jaime Campbell for being there for rehearsals during the week, as well as helping the contestants back stage with whatever their needs may be. Thanks to Ryan Casey, Corey Pottle and Leon Blackman for helping with set up, decorating and clean-up. Thanks to Robbie Ham and Michael Gudroe for doing the audio leading up to the big night of the event. Thanks to April Pinkham for singing the national anthem. Thanks to Jamie Campbell for helping back stage with hair and make up the night of the event. And thanks to Kevin and Cathy for the Opera House and helping us out that whole week.

Most of all, thanks to the parents of the contestants and the contestants themselves. It takes a lot of hard work for all of you to be able to pull off a Miss Shrimp Pageant.

Thanks to our local "First Lady" Estelle Appel for helping at the front door with tickets and meeting the needs of the staff when ever asked. Thanks to Cathy Latter and Dawn Gilbert for helping sell 50/50 tickets. Thanks to Ashley Lowery and Kathleen Pearce for selling T-shirts at the pageant.

Special thanks to the judges Leah Timberlake, Carrie Eason, Caroline Roberts and Leon Blackman. This is a very difficult job for the judges. The contestants are judged on poise, personality, appearance and talent. It’s based on a scoring system.

The judges do not know who the winners are until the auditor hands the final judging card to the emcee. Also, special thanks to the auditor Sue Norton, who was responsible for tallying the scores for the final decision, which is not an easy job.

Thanks to J. Edward Knight for donating the trophies, Boothbay Region Greenhouses for the tuxedo and flowers, the Copy Shop for the programs, John Fields of John Edwards Jewelry and Design for making the beautiful crown rings for the top three contestants, and A Silver Lining for donating dory necklaces and the gift bags for the top three contestants.

Thank you to all who made all of the events and Fishermen’s Festival weekend a huge success.

As you come in contact with any of the contestants, volunteers or committee members, please be sure to thank them for their time so that we can continue to carry on the Fishermen’s Festival tradition.

Thanks to everyone that donated fish and other product for the fish fry. Thank you to all other volunteers that helped with the breading of fish as well as frying the fish. We had many volunteers that helped pull this event off. You all know who you are and we thank you.

Thanks to Peter and Kathryn Sullivan and others for tending the food tent. Thank all of you who purchased pot buoys to paint for the contest, Kathleen Pearce, and others who tended the tent. Thanks to all of the employees of The First, N.A. who were on the waterfront early to help do whatever was needed.

Thanks to the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library for coordinating the chalk drawing on the hill.

Thanks to all the volunteers that went sea weeding in order to get the crates ready for the crate racing event. Thank you Sarah Barter for tending the kids park.

Many thanks to Lisa Kristoff, along with Elaine Jones, for volunteering their time to coordinate the Burnt Island Trip on Sunday. Also thank you goes out to Bill Campbell for donating his time and the Novelty for the boat trip to and from Burnt Island.

Thanks to Channel 7 for all the publicity and filming all weekend. Thank you Kevin Burnham and the Boothbay Register staff for all the advertising as well as the great job on the supplement. Thanks to all who were involved for the great media/publicity that we received all week.

Many thanks to Michael Marr for the art work and time that was put into the Festival T-shirts (T-shirts are still available at The First, N.A.). Thanks to Harbor Embroidery for being able to help us with T-shirts and other embroidered items.

Thank you to all of you that helped pull this event off.
