The arrival of visiting schooners, yachts, pilot cutters join those calling Boothbay Harbor homeport have been visiting Boothbay Harbor since 1962. They sail in, filling our imaginations with adventures only the sea can provide, right down to that haunting horizon line. In 2026, schooners expected are - Eastwind, Thomas E. Lannon, Tyrone, True North, Alert, Applejack, Bowdoin, Isaac H. Evans, Isabella, Sycamore, Gleam, Virginia, pilot cutter Hesper, Grace Bailey. These historic vessels arrive Wednesday, June 24 between 1 -3 p.m.
On shore expect parades galore - A Decorated Boat Parade (usually with carzy themes); the street parade bringing music, floats, antique vehicles, and more. The Vintage Boat Parade is followed by THE Pier Party - with food, beverages and music by the Wharf Cats at Bristol Marine;
Classic competitions in the Whale Park, at the Footbridge and Commercial Street: the best crab cake, lobster eating contests; the fish relay races; rock skipping, tug of war across the Harbor, a hot dog eating contest, server shuffle, hot dog eating contest.
Children’s activities: Kids Alley, Windjammers for Wee Mateys, and the Maine State Aquarium - and there are several competitions for kids to join in on from the lobster and hot dog eating to the fish relay racing and rock skipping... And who can forget those ne’er-do-well pirates bringing all manner of mischief and mayhem with them.
There's the two-day Artists Alley, two haunted tour companies - walking and by E-bike;
There are events spanning the entire festival, Sunday, June 21 - 27!

Sheyenne Upham crowned Royal Windjammer
Sheyenne Upham, 11, was crowned 2024 Royal Windjammer among the six contestants in the Boothbay’s Got Talent pageant held at Boothbay Region YMCA Sunday, June 23.
Upham performed a modern dance routine to music provided by Emile Mirabile, director of the pageant – one of the first events of the 62nd annual Windjammer Days.

Slime, tattoos and laughter filled Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library Tuesday, June 27 as the library kicked off its kids’ summer reading program during Windjammer Days. Kids of all ages chose pirate names, got passports and prepared for a summer of swashbuckling.
Pirates occupy Whale Park
The Pirates of the Dark Rose took over Whale Park June 27 during Windjammer Days. The crew set up camp and hosted several activities at their Pirate Tortuga bazaar including a puppet show retelling of Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island,” kids’ games, and a demonstration of how to fire a cannon. The crew also gave tours of the ship, the Must Roos, or “Dark Rose” in Slavic. In addition, the Shank Painters played sea shanties for the crowd.

Boothbay’s Got Talent winners crowned
Imij Armstead and Adeline Inman were crowned Top Royal and Royal Windjammer, respectively, at the Windjammer Days’ Boothbay’s Got Talent competition held Sunday evening, June 25 at Boothbay Region YMCA.
The Top Royals, ages 13 to 18, featured Armstead and Gigi Blake. The Royal Windjammer contestants, ages 7-12, were Inman, Sheyanne Upham, Lydia Mitchell, Violet Baldwin, Ireland Teele, Kayla Watts, Enilea Burns and Grace Thorton. Directing the competition was Emily Mirabile.

The first day of Boothbay Harbor’s Windjammer Days 2023 concluded with a Lighted Boat Parade around the inner harbor. Seven boats, including a local Coast Guard vessel, took part in the colorful event.

Blessing of the Fleet: Sunny skies and good participation
The sky was blue, the sun sparkled off the water, and about 35 fishing boats took part in the annual Windjammer Days’ Blessing of the Fleet Sunday afternoon, June 25.
Boothbay Harbor Methodist Church lay minister Tammy Judkins and Father Peter Shaba of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church blessed each boat with holy water and verbally as it passed by the Boothbay Harbor Fish Pier. People on board boats gave a wave up to the pier as they passed by.

Windjammer Days can be saved. My first experience was in the summer of 1974. As recent transplant from West Hartford, Conn., I attended the 1974 Windjammer Days as a special guest of customers of mine for the Maine Boat Show, Pierce Marine. In the spring of 1976, I served as chairman of the Windjammer Committee and previously co-chairman the year before.

They have committed to maintaining the heritage of this maritime event to enhance the Boothbay Region community and the experience of maritime Maine.

The Boothbay Register is the region's newspaper while its sister paper, the Wiscasset Newspaper covers all things Wiscasset and beyond.
The Boothbay Register produces an annual Boothbay Harbor WIndjammer Days guide for three decades. What started as an insert produced on news print paper has become a full color, magazine quality information source for a festival begun in 1962.
They are distributed at the Boothbay Register office, 97 Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor, in locals shops around town, and at the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce next to the Hannaford supermarket. On the Tuesday and Wednesday of each year's week-long event, copies may be found under the Friends of Windjammer Days information tent in the Whale Park.
