Cuckolds Council elects new treasurer
The Cuckolds Fog Signal and Light Station Council announced Friday the appointment of Harrison “Cal” Buxton as the organization’s treasurer.
Buxton is a senior vice president and senior portfolio manager at UBS Financial Services, a certified trust and financial advisor and a certified portfolio manager.
If Buxton’s name sounds familiar, he is the son of Carol Buxton, a local business leader.
Cal Buxton grew up on Juniper Point, West Boothbay Harbor, as both a year-round and seasonal resident. He briefly attended local public schools, attended high school in Germany, and graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, in 1981. He began his banking career in Augusta at the Depositors Trust Company, which became Key Bank.
Buxton brings to The Cuckolds more than 30 years of experience in banking and finance, portfolio management, private wealth management and investment advisory services. Before joining UBS, Buxton was senior vice president and senior portfolio manager with Bank of America’s Private Advisory Services.
“Mr. Buxton was elected unanimously,” Cuckolds Council President Gerry Gamage said. “We are eager to put the embezzlement behind us, and Cal Buxton stepping up to serve as our treasurer is a strong, affirmative step forward. We have a lot of work to do and we’re glad to have him aboard.”
“I’m delighted to be asked to join the team of leaders rescuing and restoring The Cuckolds Light Station,” Buxton said. “I’ve been sailing since childhood and have a keen interest in the outdoors. I attended the Outward Bound program at Hurricane Island when I was 16, and just returned from a trip to Colorado with my son, where we climbed, rappelled, rafted and enjoyed seven exciting days in the wilderness. The Cuckolds is the kind of rugged outpost and community volunteer endeavor that really appeals to me – and it has been a part of my life since I was a young boy.”
Buxton has always been community minded and serves as a volunteer leader. He is presently on the Institute of Certified Bankers CTFA Advisory Board; a trustee for Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y.; a corporator for The Westerly Hospital in Westerly, R.I.; and chairman of the Board of Finance for St. Michael’s Church, Pawcatuck, R.I.
He is a member of the race committee and US Sailing at Watch Hill Yacht Club and rear commodore of the Wadawanuck Club, Stonington, Conn.
