Snow falling fast in Boothbay area

The winter storm that was originally slated to arrive by noon February 8 arrived early, with 2 inches of snow by 9 a.m. By 10 a.m. the amount had doubled.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Tom Hawley said that while the storm showed up earlier than forecast, the snowfall totals shouldn't be tweaked too much.
“It was a little early – it snuck in sooner than we thought it would,” he said. “In the Boothbay area, you're looking at 20 to 24 inches of snow.”
For the year, starting July 1, when the NWS begins measuring snowfall, there have been 35 inches of snow in Portland, where information was available. Hawley said that total is two and a half inches below normal snowfall totals for the area.
Although the storm arrived early, its departure time hasn't been moved.
“It's still looking like it will end Saturday afternoon,” Hawley said.
But before it leaves the region it will feature more than snow.
“Tonight we will get winds of more than 60 miles per hour,” he said. “That means there's going to be a lot of snow blowing and we will get some drifts. It could be a real mess; there could be some power outages.”
