Dead River Company in Boothbay Harbor presented $1,000 to Lynn and Mike Martin for the Lincoln County Fire Chiefs Association on Thursday, Aug. 24. The $1,000 will be raffled off as either No. 2 heating oil or kerosene (K-1) depending on the winner’s heating system.

“This is a great way for Dead River to give back to the fire service,” said Fred Woodbury, the company’s Boothbay Harbor market manager. “When things go bad, they’re the first people we call — they’re always available to come out and help.”

Lynn Martin, LCFCA treasurer and freelance safety consultant, said funds raised from the raffle will benefit all fire departments in the county for training and equipment, among other expenses.

Woodbury said the idea for the raffle came from LCFCA secretary Leah Puckey, who works at Dead River. He said Puckey approached him with the idea because the association had done oil raffles in the past.

“(The funds) will help train new recruits throughout the county,” said Puckey. “If anybody’s interested in joining their local fire department, they should really consider it. Recruitment and retention is our big focus on the LCFCA.”

The Martins thanked Woodbury and the company for the generous donation. “It helps support a great organization of men and women making a huge difference within the communities of Lincoln County,” said Lynn Martin.

Tickets go on sale Sept. 1 and can be purchased from any of the fire departments in the county or the company’s Boothbay Harbor branch. Tickets will also be available at events such as the Fall Foliage Festival and Early Bird weekends. Tickets are $5 each and $20 for a book of four. The drawing is Dec. 18.
