Dense fog, high wind
A dense fog advisory is in effect for the Midcoast, from Waldoboro to Belfast, with a high wind watch in effect from 10 p.m. tonight, Jan. 30, through January 31.
The National Weather Service's dense fog advisory in is effect until 6 p.m. January 30.
Winds will be from the south at 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph. Should the wind watch become a warning, sustained winds of 40 mph, or gusts of 58 mph or stronger, may occur.
Winds are expected to increase late this evening and peak overnight into Thursday morning.
Dense fog can cause lowered visibility — less than 1/4-mile — and drivers are urged to slow down, use headlights and leave plenty of distance ahead.
Rain with thunderstorms is possible after midnight tonight, with areas of fog continuing after 7 p.m. The low will be around 47 F. It will be windy, from the south, at 17-22 mph increasing to 27-32 mph after midnight.
Thursday morning will bring more shower activity, mainly before 11 a.m., with temperatures falling to around 37 by 5 p.m. Winds will continue from the west at 20-29 mph. Thursday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 20 F, west winds 15-17 mph and gusts as high as 30 mph.
Friday, Feb. 1, will be mostly cloudy with a high near 27 F. There will continue to be winds from the west at around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
