Two Edgecomb landowners expressed interest in purchasing an abutting tax-acquired property for back taxes and other fees. Stephen Rubicam and George Chase were two of three landowners notified earlier in July about the town’s desire to sell a vacant tax-acquired property on Cross Point Road.

Instead of submitting separate bids, Rubicam and Chase agreed to purchase the property together, then split it between them. The two reached a purchase agreement with town officials during the July 31 selectmen’s meeting. Selectmen requested five years of back taxes totaling $6,612.50 and related legal fees as the purchase price. Rubicam will purchase the property in two weeks for approximately $6,700. He and Chase will then divide the property.

Selectmen are also preparing to sell the second of four tax-acquired properties. Selectmen are following the same format in seeking a buyer for a three-acre property on a private road off U.S. Route 1 near HT Winters Company and Scott Griffin’s property. Town officials foreclosed on the property in September 2015 after a repayment plan by the previous owner failed. The property includes a house which served as a rental unit. Town officials reported the house has been vacant for a year. Selectmen will provide abutters with the first opportunity to purchase the property.

As with the Cross Point Road property, abutters must agree to pay back taxes, which amount to $4,148, and other fees associated with the foreclosure. If abutters aren’t interested, then town officials will put the property out to bid. Selectman Jack Sarmanian reported he’d already received an inquiry from a Newcastle resident.

In other action, selectmen reviewed a recently updated Enhanced 911 Addressing plan for Sheepscot Harbor Village Resorts. For years, 40-plus housing units all used 318 Eddy Road as a physical address. Code Enforcement Officer Stan Waltz has reworked the emergency addresses and forwarded his plan for review. The updated plan shows two streets, Bayside Lane and West Island Way, for the resorts. The plan also lists an individual address for each unit. 

Selectmen will invite guests to the next meeting. The board would like to hear reports from the website committee and Edgecomb Historical Society. The board will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14 in the municipal building.
