Philanthropic Educational Organization scholarship fundraiser June 23
Irene B. Barber, originally from Newcastle, was the local recipient of the national “Program for Continuing Education” scholarship. She currently is the therapeutic horticulture coordinator at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay as well as the owner of Irene Brady Barber Greenscapes Design, LLC of Durham, Maine.
Barber's work at CMBG focuses on customized instruction and created to gently encourage participant experience and benefits of plant growth and cultivation through sight, feelings, smells and even the sounds of their labors. Irene provides an opportunity through therapy and wellness sessions for those with limited access to gardening.
The “Program for Continuing Education's” local chapter is hoping to raise money for scholarships through a fundraising “Game Day' in the region on June 23. At St. Andrews Village, Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor, participants can enjoy Bridge, Mah Jongg, Scrabble and a variety of board games. There will also be duplicate Bridge offered at the Rotary Club meeting house on Montgomery Road (off Route 96) in Boothbay Harbor.
P.E.O. has been devoted to the support of women's education since 1869. As its website states, “P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans and stewardship of Cottey College and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.”
Come, play some games and help to support women's programs around the world.
Tickets will be available at the door of both St. Andrews Village and Rotary Club meeting house. Noon start at both locations. Tickets are $15.
